Talk:IPhone OS
From MobileDesign
Couple things:
- Consider where this article resides. Alongside (when others are written) UI descriptions of all the other devices in the world. The intro should not just mention the button, but that it's touchscreen, multitouch, and how all of this varies from other devices. Consider someone who has never used an iPhone, but is a developer familiar with other devices, and needs to consider the differences when developing their app or site.
- Bezel usually means the frame surrounding the display. Never anything within the GUI itself. This should be a "title bar," "masthead" or something similar (different for the bottom one, of course). Please mention if this is what it is called in some literature, especially from apple.
- I perceive coverflow as a sort of carousel. Might be better off talking about the unique nature of touch-only carousels, and scrolling behaviors in general, than saying they don't work at all. This is not iPhone specific, either.
- Similarly, fisheye and zoom lists (need to merge these) work fine on touch only devices. They just require a special application as hover is inapplicable, so either click only exposes further information, or some portion of the list item does this. This is not iPhone specific.
- Quite a bit too opinionated (positive, or even fanboi) on the keyboard. It is not universally better than everything else, so someone needs to tone this down. Details about the keyboard perhaps should be in the input devices section (virtual keyboards) and just referred to here.
- In "Scrolling and selecting from a list" there are a few strategies covered, briefly and without example. The issues are not iPhone specific, so perhaps would be better served by referring to methods discussed in detail in the subcategory items under http://patterns.littlespringsdesign.com/index.php/Listings
